Interview/Auditions for DIVERTIMENTI - May 17, 2010

DIVERTIMENTI, Easton's own ensemble program for strings, launches its unique program with auditions, by appointment. Call Helen Martin, 610-253-3907.  More: Click Offerings, above!

As Director of Divertimenti I want to offer the advantages of class teaching to Easton Area string students. I will schedule classes according to response, including the two-year beginners SURE START program.

TECH-COMMAND is an ideal addition to any after-school program. Real musicians facilitate Club sessions by using amazing software. Developed by a jazz musician, who wanted to offer creative avenues to the rest of us, the software for this program secures the aural skills that make music a breeze!

Minimum Club membership: Five musicians

SURE START offers:

Sequenced building of musicianship: aural understanding before visual  

- Emphasis on audiation supported by AUDIATION ASSISTANT    

- Separate rhythmic and tonal development    

- Employing rhythmic and tonal solfege  

- Introducing rhythmic materials with smaller fractional units   

- Monitoring audiation through oral responses

Rolland-based executive skills (technique) that grow out of an expanding musical foundation

- Key and mode orientation instead of Positions

- Separate highlighting for left and right hand actions

- Parallel teaching of movement along the (“whole”) string

- Poem form for beginner’s pieces, a single phrase per staff system

EMILY ORENSTEIN, ROYAL ACADEMY SENIOR - July 17, 2009

Congratulations to Emily Orenstein on winning a place at the Royal Academy of Music. This means she  will complete her Lehigh University Studies in London, a city that boasts five major symphony orchestras. While at Lehigh, where Emily has been co-concertmaster of the Lehigh Philharmonic, she continued as a guest-student at Fretless Studio. Emily's primary studies are under Timothy Schwarz.
